I photographed the amazing Sheinelle Jones for Philly Mag! It’s the latest installment of the “On the Record” interview feature that I am blessed and privileged to shoot for regularly. (You can see a gallery of the OTR portraits here.)

Sheinelle’s interview with writer Victor Fiorillo covers a lot of topics - her Philly origins (born here and then on-air at Fox 29), her time at The Today Show, and her recent pairing with Jenna Bush Hager for the shows 4th hour. Sheinelle also talks about dealing with grief after losing her spouse to cancer last year.

We packed up the car and headed up to NBC Studios at Rockefeller Center in NYC for this one. It was a real treat to visit the studio and get a behind the scenes look at where the magic happens. We arrived and were ushered in to the Jenna & Sheinelle space to set up in anticipation of Sheinelle’s arrival. The state of the art studio looks great - the walls are digital screens and there’s tons of lighting available. It does “all that and then some” for the recording and airing of the show we see everyday.

As soon as I saw the windows to the outside, though, I knew I wanted to incorporate views of Rockefeller Center and beyond into the portrait. Since the images are for an interview piece I thought including a glimpse “behind the curtain” of the scene felt appropriate.
