Oddly enough, experimenting with creating a new business logo for myself (site & branding updates coming this Fall - stay tuned!) led me to photographing the amazingly delicious creations at a local doughnut shop. The logo above is an homage to the kings of branding with not one, but two letter K’s - Krispy Kreme Doughnuts!
While making it I realized my mouth was watering profusely… and I had an urge to learn more about and document the doughnut making process!
Chef/Owner/Operator Alex Talbot at Curiosity Doughnuts.
A friend recommended I check out Curiosity Doughnuts in Furlong, PA. “They’re so delicious! And unique! Super cool doughnuts!” she said. She wasn’t wrong.
Curiosity Doughnuts is owned by Alex Talbot and Aki Kamozawa. They are also known for Ideas in Food, a source of culinary innovation and inspiration that started as a food blog and grew into a book and a consulting business. Curiosity Doughnuts was created because they are passionate about doughnuts and Alex wanted to create the best versions of them possible. They started in the Stockton Farmer’s Market in Stockton, NJ in 2015. They moved to the Whole Foods in Spring House, PA a couple of years later. After leaving Whole Foods, they opened their first stand-alone shop in 2023 at 800 Edison Furlong Rd in Furlong PA. Throughout the years their focus has been on creating the best possible doughnuts, with an emphasis on exploring a variety of doughs, glazes, and crumbs served up a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

I arrived on site at the shop around 3:30am where “time to make the doughnuts” was already well underway. I documented the action while Chef Alex did his magic molding and crafting these rings of delight into existence! FYI - I didn’t get a chance to satisfy my cravings until AFTER capturing all the images featured in this post... it was torture. The sun was just barely peaking over the horizon when I first bit into the Vanilla Glazed Curiosity Cruller. It made me weak in the knees!

Thanks again to Alex & The Curiosity Doughnut team for having me in… and for making some of the best doughnuts I’ve ever tasted!
